At IES Breckland we aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that caters for the needs of all students.
Upon entering the school in Year 7 students follow a two year Key Stage 3 curriculum designed to provide students with a wide range of different subjects to study. English, Mathematics and Science are core to the curriculum during Key Stage 3 at IES Breckland and are supplemented by study in Humanities (Geography, History, Religious Education), Languages (French) Creative Arts & Technology (Art, Design Technology, Drama, ICT, Music) and Physical Education. Citizenship is delivered through regular PSHE lessons and through the schools mentoring system. Those students who require additional support in Literacy receive a bespoke curriculum in which Language study is replaced by Literacy lessons. For more details on the Key Stage 3 curriculum follow the links for Years 7 and 8.
As students move into Year 9 they will commence their GCSE studies. Dedicating three years to Key Stage 4 enables students to deepen their understanding of the subjects that they are studying and allows adequate time to best prepare for the end of Year 11 examinations. Currently students in Key Stage 4 follow a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education and ICT. In addition students receive three options choices from a wide range of subjects that include: Art & Design, Business Studies, Computing, CoPE, French, Geography, History, Performing Arts (Dance, Drama and Music), Physical Education, Psychology and Resistant Materials. Core Physical Education (non-examination) completes the Key Stage 4 curriculum. Citizenship is taught through the GCSE Religious Education syllabus and during the schools mentoring system. For further details about the Key Stage 4 curriculum offer at IES Breckland and details of the Key Stage 4 options process please follow the links for Years 9-11.
